Land Access & Opportunity Board
“The Land Access and Opportunity Board ("the Board") was created under Section 22 of Act 182 of 2022 to engage with Vermont organizations working on housing equity and land access ‘to recommend new opportunities and improve access to woodlands, farmland, and land and home ownership for Vermonters from historically marginalized or disadvantaged communities who continue to face barriers to land and home ownership.’”
Racial Justice Statistics Advisory Council
Established in May 2022 through the signing of bill H.546, the Division of Racial Justice Statistics is responsible for overseeing the collection, analysis, and public dissemination of comprehensive data related to Vermont’s criminal legal system.
Environmental Justice Advisory Council
The Environmental Justice Advisory Council provides independent advice and recommendations to State agencies and the General Assembly on matters relating to environmental justice, including the integration of environmental justice principles into State programs, policies, regulations, legislation, and activities. The Environmental Justice Advisory Council was created by the Vermont Environmental Justice Law (Act 154 of 2022)
Vermont Health Equity Advisory Commission
Established under Act 33 of 2021, the Commission aims to advance health equity and eliminate health disparities among Vermonters, elevate the voices of affected communities, and offer strategic guidance for the development of the Vermont Office of Health Equity.
Vermont 250th Anniversary Commission
In 2020, Governor Phil Scott signed Executive Order No. 06-20 to create the 250th Anniversary Commission to “plan, coordinate and promote observances and activities that commemorate the historic events associated with the American Revolution in Vermont.”
Projects and Partnerships
Abenaki Place Name State Park Signage
Brought together by Act No. 174 (H.880), the Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation, Commission on Native American Affairs, and community subject matter experts are working together to compile and list Abenaki place names on State Park signs as they need to be replaced. Replaced signs include Amiskwbi (Beaver Water) or Sweet Water State Park in Guilford, VT with more on the way.
American Abenaki Curriculum
Undertaken as a collaboration between the VCNAA, the four VT state recognized tribes, and the Seventh Generation Foundation, the "American Abenaki Curriculum" will serve as an opportunity for Vermont students to learn about American Abenaki history as told by the community. A curriculum committee, comprised of representation from each of the tribes, have worked for over two years on this initiative, and it will be the first Abenaki curriculum designed with classroom teaching support built into its own website.
